Ed Rege

Ed Rege is an animal scientist with a strong background and extensive experience in animal genetics and breeding in developing countries of sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. He has a combined teaching and research experience of over 28 years. Prior to joining ILCA (now ILRI), he was a senior lecturer in quantitative genetics, animal breeding and biometrics at the University of Nairobi where he was head of Animal Breeding and Genetics. At ILRI, he was the initiator and Director of an Animal Genetic Resources program and coordinated global activities on characterization (including gene discovery and assessment of genetic diversity) and conservation of indigenous animal genetic resources and development of breeding strategies for low-input smallholder production systems, in addition to co-ordinating research on the development of vaccines and diagnostic tools for tropical livestock diseases.

Ed has long term experience in planning and executing strategic planning processes, and has professional training in the conduct of organizational diagnosis and supporting implementation of required change processes for enhanced performance. As a trained facilitator, Ed is known for conducting effective but inclusive strategic planning processes involving multi-stakeholders. He currently works for PICO- Eastern Africa.
