Markos Tibbo

Markos Tibbo is an Ethiopian veterinarian and animal geneticist employed at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) since 2001. He received his PhD (June 2006) in Animal Science (especially Genetics and Breeding) from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Sweden. Formerly he held a DVM (July 1993) degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.

His main tasks at ILRI have been to write livestock breed summaries for ILRI-SLU project on Capacity Building for Sustainable Use of Animal Genetic Resources in Developing Countries, validation of information in the Domestic Animal Genetic Resources Information System (DAGRIS), management and analysis of experimental data, scientific report writing, and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students. Since 1993 he has worked in international (ILCA/ILRI & AICF) and national (SARC) research and development institutions in improving ruminants' health and productivity with a focus on small ruminants through improved health, breeding and management.

Dr Tibbo has authored or co-authored over 50 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and proceedings, received a number of awards and serves in the Editorial Review Board for national (Ethiopian Journal of Animal Production, Ethiopian Veterinary Journal) and international (International Journal of Applied Research in Veterinary Medicine) journals
