The computer exercises can be used in computer labs or for demonstrations. The following topics are covered
Prediction of breeding values - BLUP
In these exercises the students set up the mixed model equations for small numerical examples and use Microsoft Excel Matrix operations to get solutions - to predict BLUP breeding values. The assignment includes examples of different BLUP models. The assignment is given as a Pdf document and the solution to each exercise in a separate Excel-file. The exercises were provided by the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala, Sweden.
Exercise 1: Sire model with no fixed effects Exercise 1 Solution
Exercise 2: Sire model with fixed effect of herd Exercise 2 Solution
Exercise 3: Animal model with herd effect Exercise 3 Solution
Exercise 4: Animal model with herd effect and relationships Exercise 4 Solution
Breeding plans
In these exercises the students familiarise with a computer lab for estimation of expected genetic gain in cattle breeding, allowing for variable population structures and trait parameters. The assignment is given in a pdf-file and Excel-files are used for calculating genetic gain in one and two traits, respectively.

PowerPoint presentations
In this exercise students familiarise with the Microsoft Power Point program for making transparencies or computer based presentations. An introductory manual to power point is provided as a pdf-file.
