Jan Philipsson is a professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics, and head of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics at SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), Uppsala, Sweden. He is involved in teaching of animal breeding courses at undergraduate and graduate levels and supervises MSc and PhD students’ research. Jan is a founder of INTERBULL (International Bull Evaluation Service), and its international secretary since it’s inception in 1983. He has been a member of the FAO Expert Panel on Animal Genetic Resources, and conducted numerous consultancies on behalf of FAO on breeding strategies for developing countries. He has been a member (1999-2005) of Board of Trustees of ILRI (International Livestock research Institute) of the CGIAR, where he was chair of its program committee.
Since 1999, Jan has been involved in developing and facilitating capacity building courses and workshops for university teachers and researchers in developing countries.
