Birgitta Malmfors is an associate professor at the department of Animal Breeding and Genetics at SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), Uppsala, Sweden. She is also director of studies with a main responsibility for the development of curricula, teaching methods and internationalization of animal breeding and genetics at the BSc/MSc levels. She teaches animal breeding in courses at those levels, and supervises PhD students. Birgitta runs international workshops on science communication and has published a text book on this topic. She has been a member of the Research Board of Sida, and also of several international working groups on higher education in animal science. She has been project leader and trainer in a development project in animal breeding in Ethiopia.
Since 1999, Birgitta is the SLU project leader of the ILRI-SLU project on Capacity Building for Sustainable Use of Animal Genetic Resources in Developing Countries. She is an editor of the Animal Genetics Training Resource, and has since the start of the project in 1999 been involved in developing and facilitating capacity building courses and workshops for university teachers and researchers in developing countries.
